Quad Het Eggs

guyergenetics Jun 08, 2009 08:37 AM

My female quad het (Amel, Anery, Hypo, Motley) layed 18 eggs yesterday. I paired her with a normal male. The purpose of this pairing was just to see if he has anything hidden in his genotype or not.

Total egg count: 91

Very nice normal female in her own right!! I bet her hypo babies will look awesome. I tend to get bored with the multi hets if I have more than one or two of the same expression, until I realize the genetic potential they have. I hope your normal male proves out some cool genes as well.

This is an '08 Hypo that is a full younger sibling to the quad het female pictured above:

The parents of both of these snakes are a male Snow het Hypo and a female Hypo het Anery.

Thus the het Amel, Anery, and hypo in the Quad het. I bred her to a male Striped Motley last year...looking for shared traits similar to what I'm doing this year....and she produced a good number of Motley babies.

So I was like "Huh, you have that too." So The Triple het was confirmed to actually be a quad het. Surprise!!

Now the question is which of the original parents has the Motley genetics? The male Snow or the female Hypo? This is my 5th year breeding those two together and they have never produced a Motley baby, so I know that they don't both have it.

I was planning on doing a breeding test this season to see if the male Snow was het Mot or not, but that got pushed aside for other projects. So, I have to test them in 2010.

Both the quad het and the Hypo in this post are by-products of my Ghost line.

Nice 08 hypo. Good luck in deciphering your snow and hypo to see who has the mot. gene!!

it sounds like that is a good snake to use for that. I love snakes with lots of hets. They have so much potential and it makes hatching time so much fun. congrats on the clutch
