If you contact your insurance company and you have already reptiles, you had better be descreet about it. Maybe just asking them might alert to the fact. This is if you already have a policy. I live in the mid-west. I posted some time ago that 2 of the better known companies of this area would not consider any policy including home owners and or liability if reptiles were on the property. So one person that i know told them after the fact and was cancelled. Now go to another insurance company and explain that ! It didn't matter that the reptiles were not in the house but in a seperate building. It didn't matter that the door to this building was with lock and all cages were with escape proof lids/doors. No, I'm not saying break any laws and or any confidelity between a insurance company or anything but beware ! You may be within your state and local laws but not within legal writings of your insurance policy. So what do you do ?

You are absolutely right, and I am glad that you pointed this out. Here in Texas, insurance companies are looking for any reason to cancel policies, with all of the "black mold" issues and flooding in the eastern region of the state. My wife and I recently purchased a home, and there is a specific question on the homeowners insurance application that mentions exotics. People, this is not some innocent demographic study. If you have reptiles, many insurance companies won't even consider giving you insurance.

Texas really sucks with the issue of Reptiles and home insurance. The company that was covering our house recently dropped our insurance due to reptiles and arachnids being kept in the house (not sure how they found out). I was pissed to say the least.
