Could be a pretty sweet clutch

anthony james mc Jun 08, 2009 11:31 PM

This mojave just laid , she was bred to a Mystic. She laid 6 fertile eggs, not bad for her first clutch . I also had a Fire and a very odd female that's made weird bright orange colored babies for me before just ovulate, they also were both bred to a Mystic . Hopefully the Pastel, Fire, Yb and this odd gene all line up with the Mystics here this year. The Mystic gene is a powerful gene to make combos with , should be alot of fun crosses yet to come with the project! Hopefully we'll start seeing a few Mystic crosses yet this season from those of us that are working the project!

Anthony great job so far in working with this gene, I'm looking forward to seeing what alot of these combos look like. With that said it is all but guarenteed that the mystic is the phantom (hurry and make that super so that debate can be over). Given this fact, once the super is produced and DOES prove the mystic to be a phantom, have you thought about dumping the mystic name and going along the line of McCain line phantom? While you have definately done alot of work on proving your line out with all different mutations out there it just seems more logical to just add a line name on an already existing mutation. Again congrats on a great year so far and I look forward to talking to you again soon (when one of us isn't drinking, those conversations last forever and nothing is really said, lol).

Keep the Mystic name. Unrelated animals SHOULD, in most cases, have a different name. More names = less conflict!!!! Rock on with the nice pile of white Anthony!!!!

with that logic, every new hypo, pastel, albino, black pastel/cinny and yellow belly imported should have a new name. In fact I can only think of a very few morphs where only one or two examples have been imported. So if every new "line" of morph imported gets a new name, my god we will have 1000 single morph names (yeah that's good for the hobby). Just think we would have probably 20 different morph names for pastels if we took that route. If I prove out a line of phantoms/mystics do I get to name them again? See where does it end? I like Anthony and think he is doing a great job working this morph into other projects but the morph itself was named and proven years ago.

Thanks for the input Bill and Josh!

I think at the very least the Mystic is a different bloodline than the original Phantom. Much like the Lesser /Butter situation actually. Even though the Lesser and the Butter are likely the same things I still think it makes the most sense to call them their respective names if for no other reason than to keep the origins in line.

I have had alot of pressure regarding the naming of this morph. I felt from the time I hatched out the first cb Mystic that it was more than just an ugly Mojave and that in fact it was a type of phantom. Some of you likely remember my early on Mystic ads and how adamant I was about this morph proving out to be some type of phantom. It took some thought before I decided the Mystic name fit the glove the best. The Phantom and Mystic names go hand and hand with each other if you really think about how both names are defined. That being said I really have no intentions of changing the name at this point. Some people will likely call them McCain line Phantoms or Mystic Phantoms or something along those lines, but the truth in my opinion is it will be alot easier to name the crosses or combos by just leaving the Mystic name the way it is.

Congrats on the eggs and that's a killer looking Mojave girl!

Best of luck to ya! I remember seeing the mystics back in 06' and thinking for sure there was something going on with them. Congrats on making the potions and staying dedicated to your project and not letting the haters throw ya off!

Keep up the great work!
