naming your snake??

reddogg1 Jun 10, 2009 06:06 AM

I've noticed people name there snake's. I personally never have. I have dog's, I give them name's because they can respond to there name's. But naming snake's?? I don't know... GO DOLPHIN'S!!!!!!!!!

I'm with you on that.....probably because I have waaaaay to many! Plus all that extra thought just to come up with a name for all of them! oH woW!

If I was going to name any it would just be my breeder Boas or my hold backs, but still that's a lot of names... My daughter always names them any way, or at least trys too!

keep it simple, just name them all BOB or Bobby for girls!

I name my breeders, mainly becasue it's easier to talk about them as individuals when talking to other people familiar with my collection. Its easier to say "Casper" (who doesn't have a Ghost named Capser?), instead of 04_M_Ghost_1, or "Jane" instead of 05_F_Jungle_het_Albino_2. Especially when you have more than one of each age/sex/genegtic combination and the only difference is the number at the end.

Plus when they graduate to the point that they get names, they are no longer "inventory"!

It's a personal preference... A sign of endearment and/or respect... not unlike naming your car or boat.

I name each and every one of my snakes. Do they respond, DUH - NOT!

I name them for myself so I have something to call them and so I can identify them better in lineage records. I use a two digit bbreviation in the individual baby name for each parrent. For example SP-CA-0901 is Spirit x Casper 2009 baby # 1

Makes it much easier for me to keep them straight and to discuss them with others.

Realisticly it is like naming a fish....there is no expectation of response from them.

It is probably used as a clever marketing tool by some and it does kind of add a "name brand" effect to them which that is all some people care about.

Last point is that I think if I were looking for lets say a high end hypo and I found one for sale from someone other than the original breeder, I could call up the OG breeder and ask for verification with out using a whole lot of numbers talk.

Just my 2 cents

And even though you can misspell names just as easily, (and misspronounce themtoo) the neame is easier to remember and more likely to trigger a memory than simple numbers. Problem with numbers is a simple mistake and/or transposition could easily be another valid animal number.

Reeses or reses or reezes etc. I'd get what they meant quicker.

Me too. I name them to have a way to refer to them. I enjoy the animals in my collection too. Naming them feels like they are also a pet, not just a collector's item or inventory.

Every one of them have a name just like my dogs and cats.

Only names my snakes have is a ID number that tracks their progress through Degei software. Put I do know all my snakes just by the look of them. The stories that were gathered in each of them throughout the building of my collection is how I remember them most.

New SuperSalmon male I just added to my collection.

Some of them just name themselves. Honest. Take Snapper here as an example.

If I hadn't learned early on how to anticipate him I'd look like a heroin junkie with track marks on my arms. The only time you can count on him not wanting to take a piece out of someone is during breeding season. Then there's something other than biting at the forefront of his pea sized brain.

Like I said earlier wait till you see him on the field and the guy is the most proffessional player out there...Kansas city was on drugs when they let him go for a second round pick in 2010.

I agree Pennington will love him...I still can't believe he will not be a chief
