SALEM -- It would be illegal to keep an alligator, monkey or lion as a pet if a bill that passed the Oregon House Wednesday becomes law.

No crocodiles, lions or tigers either. Senate Bill 391 would not force people to give up those pets. But it would prevent them from getting new ones.

The bill passed 43-15. It will take a detour back to the Senate for approval of an amendment before heading on to the governor, who has said he'll sign it into law. --Michelle Cole; michellecole@news.oregonian.com
