? on imported adults and breeding

adamjeffery Jun 14, 2009 10:50 AM

i was just wondering if those who have been breeding balls for along time could answer this.
When attempting to use a w/c adult female do they normally breed the first year after being caught or do they take a while to acclimate in order to be bred? im asking because IF i plan on buying one then i will need a quarentine period before introduction to a male. this is more just curiosity and i would preffer cb over any w/c anyday
thanks in advance

From what i've heard from some breeders, they can take up to 3 years to get acclimitized.
Often quicker to raise up cb babies.

There will be CB breeder females aplenty this season might as well get one of them.

I've had a WC girl in my collection for some time -- she breeds every year - but never lays. Really not worth all the extra that I've had to go through to clean her, acclimate her and continue to feed her her special diet and put up with her attitude - now it's just a challenge to see if she'll ever give me babies.

Lots of people have better luck - lots of people end up killing them off - stick with CB.

why import? why bother...they could go in a year, they could never go ,,,usually I would say it takes awhile???...I know guys that got gravids in and after laying they hated life, one died then another, ....

...I have one imported female YB...she is about 900 grams maybe?...she's at least an 05....I have captive 07 female YB that are at least 1500 grams?.....and captive male YB that is at least 900.....so wild sucks....

....there are SOOOO many females out there for sale cheap right now....captive USA born and long term captive kepts.....that eat and breed....(yes even buying one of these can make them mad they were moved and they may take years to pay (seen it take 3 when moving them)....

...good luck...buy American....!
