aggressive female..???

SnakeCharmer77 Jun 14, 2009 12:18 PM

so i had the boy in with her. and i took him out on the 1st. she went through a shed cycle. and now--OMG shes aggressive and HUNGRY. i think she would eat daily if i fed her. i fed her a med. rat. and two days later she acted like she hasnt been fed in weeks.
she was acting so aggressive about it that when the dog walked by her tank last night she hunted him and struck at him.
she stays in the cold area of her tank- so its her fault if shes cold.
i need to change her water and clean out her tank. but i dont want to put my hands in there if shes being this aggressive.
i fed her a small rat last night, and today she was ready to attack me when i went over to her tank.

the last time i held her, i woke her up by picking her up and she did a little strike at me. so i put her back. i havent really held her since.

is there any other reason that she would be this aggressive and hungry?

she is getting ready to go a long time with out food.... I would feed her what she will eat breeding takes a lot out of them. I have females that loose 500 + grams easy when breeding and clutching. You think shes hungry now wait until after she lays she will eat and eat and eat. just my 2 cents

I have a pied female, about 300 grams so we aren't breeding her, but she is the same way. I don't think it's aggression for us though because she does nothing but strike at the mice we put in her tank. She has even struck a mouse to death before, but never ate him. We got her from Mark Venhorst (Boamaster). She was a sweetie when we first got her and now she is a holy terror. Snaps at the front of her tub if we pass and she sees us, can't put our hands in to change her water. She has plenty of hot and cold spaces, plenty of hides, she is just MEAN.

if she was mellow when you got her she sounds stressed. I would make sure she is in a quit spot in the house. I would give her a week or 2 then I would handle her for a short time everyday.

hmmmm...
maybe she was just shy? kinda like when youre dating someone and they are all nice and as time goes by they show their true colors
ehehehhehe

seriously though.
shadow was kind of the same way. she was jumpy/skiddish. and i just equated it to me being new for her. she was in the bedroom, and we would walk by her alot. but then i put her in the other room with the rest of the reptiles and she only sees us a few times during the day.
i havent been handling her much either. i didnt handle her much in may because she was either breeding, eating, or shedding.
and i havent handled her much in june either..not after she struck at me. and since shes acting starved...i DONT want to put my hands in there with her!!!
nuh uh... no way.
she was going to get the dog the other night. hes around the size of a jack russell...toooo big for her! i try not to let him go in there with me now. or the cats for that matter lol
im going to feed her very well tonight, if she wants....

My pied is in a quite room too, with no activity in it except in the morning and evening. We have our snake room in the basement where we can control humidity and temperature. She has three hides, a great temp gradient from 92 to 77, and we feed her a small adult mouse every four days (she doesn't seem to want to take any larger yet). I suppose it could be possible she's just a meanie.

welll...two medium rats later and shes finally calming down.
she might have even taken more. but after the second one she curled up in her hide spot and just peeked out at me as i was walking around tending to the others. lol maybe tomorrow shell let me put my hands in there?
i dont want to try to hold her on such a full tummy. but shes got stuff i need to clean out. im going to try....if you see a ranting about snake bites, you know what happened...
