White throat monitor

SteveH Jun 14, 2009 12:41 PM

Just got a baby white throat monitor from Reptile Depot. I've kept black throats and banded capes before but these look a little different. Instead of having bands, it just has the dots on its back like the bosc monitor. Does anyone know the origin in Africa that these come from? Or are they from the same area the banded capes are from?

It could be a microstictus. They have tiny dots on their backs and used to be considered the 'true' blackthroat, but who knows what they're calling them now?) Have you done a search to see if it looks like any other wt/bt?

This is not him but is a pic I found of one that looks very close to what he looks like.

I'm not sure, but it's back pattern does look like microstictus.
There are other keepers on here, who should have a better idea.
They're too lazy to type though;p

Ok, thankyou. I realize there aint no cut and dry method of knowing their origin. Especially just going by a pic. I just notice alot of babies of this phase being offered and they dont look like banded capes.

The white throat a friend of mine had. Here was Blaize.

Very nice! But the spots look more uniform than on the one pictured?

SHvar Jun 15, 2009 10:35 AM

The one I showed a pic of grew up, he was over 5.5ft long.
Their spots change in uniformness, size, color, etc as they change when they grow.
Somewhere I have pictures of him as a baby.

That one sort of reminds me of a few Rob Faust had. Here is a pic of my hatchling. Had to use my phone cam. Camera is out of batteries.

Tanzanian WTs that he got from an individual who bred them, this person used to post here. I have pictures of one like yours somewhere around here.
