New Boa (photo)

jscrick Jun 15, 2009 06:01 PM

I just got this guy. I have wanted him since the first day I laid eyes on him, 2 years ago. He was proven back then. About 6 ft. long. Must be at least an '04.
He has just shed in the photo. I just took it. You can see a wad of skin in the background.

I believe he's the real deal. To the many of you that I respect so, and who's opinions I value, please PM me and let me know what you think. I know the picture could be better.

From what i see there he is very interesting, I would love to see outdoor pic's, some tail and ventral shots of that fine looking boa.

What is the background W/C or C.B.? if so who produced him, you also mentioned he was proven....what did the kids come out looking like? Who proved him?

sorry all the questions but you know I love those Peruvians

My opinion is he looks to be one that I would love to have.

Took these at dusk, so there is a flash.

I think he is leaning towards the Ecuadorian "melanogaster" race.
Comments please.

that is a great looking boa! I would love to have him in my collection, but as far as "melanogastar" I think that is a stretch even though fine as he is I don't think he meets that criteria

Fun stuff.

I agree. I've had them with darker bellies, for sure. But, he sure does have a lot of that speckling going on. Back in the late 90's I had a girl with the same pattern, but she was light with a nice pink tint to her sides.
To be true melanogaster, I'd think fewer saddles, too. I'm just saying he's got that genetic influence from slightly North of Peru and East of the Andes.
On another note - has anyone noticed how flat the Peruvian's head is? It's long and it's broad at the jowls, but it is also distinctively flattened. Seen a lot of mature male photos expressing that trait lately. Or maybe it's just another one of my crack-pot theories.
Thanks for your input guys.

I would agree that it looks like there may be "some" Melanogastar influence.

I am interested....do you know if he was an import or who produced him?

a melanogaster. I really love those pitch-black Peruvian redtails. Congrats to your beautiful addition!

All the best,
Adam

I cleaned up your picture a little bit by correcting the color and lighting... let me know if this is a more accurate representation of the way he looks in real life.

As a matter of fact, that's exactly what I'm going to call him. I don't often name my animals, but he is a worthy exception.
