First time females

sgraff Jun 15, 2009 06:04 PM

I have heard that a lot of first time females throw slugs their first year. I havent experienced this from any of my females until this year, I had one throw slugs. I was wondering if there is a higher percentage of first time females sluggin out.
Also, no she wasent under weight. She was 1700g when I put the male with her. Thanks

I'm guessing that the rumor that first time females throw slugs (which I'd never heard before) may be more due to first time breeders not really knowing what they're doing...cooking sperm, keeping females too hot when building eggs, not getting males in with females when needed, etc.

I can't realy answer your question, as this is my first year breeding. I had three first time females lay sixteen good eggs and one slug.

I'll have to agree with jayefbe, I had two first timers go this year, one produced 7 good eggs and no slugs, the second produced 8 good eggs and no slugs.
