Problem Snakes?

JuanCab Jun 16, 2009 11:02 AM

Just wondering if any of you have problem snakes. I have one snake that seems ridiculously prone to skin issues. She is maintained the same way as all of my other snakes. None of my other snakes have any issues. The only time they have needed the vet is once when a rat inflicted a superficial bite (left no scar) on one of my adult males and when a hatchling split its lip on the tongs (as well as some hypochondria attacks on my part). When I bought her in 05 she came in with horrendous scale rot and worms. This was taken care of immediately. Since then she has had two more minor boughts of scale rot the most recent of which I just cleared up. Now she has a dried out looking patch on her neck. She is entering shed so I am hoping that after she sheds it will be gone. As I said above, she gets the same care (spot cleaning as needed, heavy cleaning every other week, fed once a week, clean water, 84-86 hot side, AP rack, 65-75 humidity) as the rest and is the only one who ever has any problems. Any one else have one like this?

Sounds odd - Have you taken her in to be checked - she could have an infection that can be causing the reoccurring issues -- maybe a course of antibiotics to clear it up? IDK

Good luck.

My biggest issues here are.. I have a few morphs that will only eat live mice, I have tryed F/T, and live rats.. I have tryed to switch them over to frozen but with no luck.. The person I got them from was feeding them live mice.. One of them is actually one of my better eaters she will take 3-4 mice at a time live no problem, but for the last about 3 months she has gone off feed which sucks.. She was on her way to being breeding size this next season but at this rate its not looking promising.. Also, I have a psychotic adult wild caught female who has busted her lip 2 times on the inside of a tub since this has happened she ate 1 small rat in about 6months and that was 3 months ago it is totally healed and she will try to eat me but basically spits out the rats when I offer her them..

How old is and how much does the one you want to breed weigh? I have found that they usually go off feed in the winter or if they are getting close to breeding wieght. The girl I posted about is a sporadic eater. she will eat really well for a few months, go off for a few and then back on. She hovered at @ 1000 grms for two years and then shot to 1400 just in time for the 08 season. She seemed healthy at the time so I bred her and got 6 eggs. One went bad and the others hatched.

Yeah, three strikes. If she isn't clear when she sheds or if this happens again I am taking her to my new vet who actually knows more than I do (finally) about herps. I am actually thinking that if it isn't a poorly developed immune system that it might be viral like herpes or shingles because she's already been hit with a solid round of antibiotics.
