I've always wanted to work with red milks and have always wanted to find some in the field. Thanks to a few friends of mine, I've been able to accomplish both this year.
First, Cole sent me an awesome pair of 08 captive bred MO locality reds. They are already some of my favorites.

Then, Ed Minor and I made a trip up North to KY, IL, MO in search of red milks. We found a bunch of nice stuff, including one baby red milk! I learned a ton from Ed. It was a great trip.
Here are a few highlights:
One of the first catches of the trip was a nice getula...getula nger to be exact. I first for me

At the same spot, Ed caught another one

Not long after, Ed found the prize of the trip. Me and Ed's buddy Scott flipped all the rocks and found no snakes and then Ed decided to lift one because it "looked like it was in the right spot" and bam, he finds a red

some habitat

Later that day, we found an integrade rat...which looked exactly like the Texas rats I caught with Nate a few weeks earlier

Also at the same spot as the rat was this guy

The next day was anoter big getula day. The first catch of the day was this speckled king that I found

Here's where it was. Snake lovers paradise?

Driving to the next spot, Ed eyed this little guy while cruising the roads. Still have no clue how he saw it

Further down that same road, we found this, which is always a welcomed sight

Next was pay dirt. A couple of kings and a Timber!

As Ed went to put this guy back, he saw another one crawling out from under the carpet he flipped.

Then Ed found this guy...what a beauty...nice and calm and didn't want to move or buzz

The next day was still another good day. To start off, a giant snapper on the road

A bunch of kings, including this one under some tin

And this one on the road

A couple of copperheads in situ

A racer was out as well

And too many of these to count - worm snakes

It was an incredible trip. Unfortunately, I lost my notes on what our trip totals were. I remember there were 8 kings though and of course, 1 red milk, which is what I came to see.
