gary1 Sep 14, 2003 03:02 PM

only got my adf yesterday and aint really been in much to observe him, ive not seen him come up for air yet and i sat and watched a few times for about 5-15 mins each without seeing it surface for air

he obviously breathes at some point but just curious as to how long they can stay underwater for once they have taken a breath

I would say about 7 min or so. They can go really fast, so you might have just missed it. If the frog feels threatened he will not surface as much. Do you have a log or something for him to hide under? This will help him to not be stressed because he can get away from any fish that are bothering him. I use African Iron wood in my tank for hiding places. I don’t have any fish in the tank so the frogs are out and swimming around most of the time. I noticed that the frogs became a lot more active and interesting to watch when I removed the fish that I had been keeping in their tank.

ive observed it surfacing now, very quick as u mentioned, i have some hiding places but watching the frog i think i need to improve these a bit as when he comes up for air he swims around mad looking for a hiding place when he comes back down. i think the other fish in the tank are maybe stopping it from being quite as active. theres only a couple in the tank but it is quite 'busy'

thanks for ur help
