Cage building ?

If I were to build cages out of plywood would it be ok to seal it by laying down two offset layers of contact paper and caulking the edges with fish tank silicone? If not, why and what methods work best? Thank you in advance for your replies.

When I built wooden cages I sealed them with polyurethane, just let them cure and air real well before putting snakes in them.
