Mold on eggs wont go away

ChadRamsey Jun 17, 2009 05:32 PM

Its looking like ill have to write off one of my Het Pied eggs. It started of as a slight discolored boob end on an otherwise perfect egg.

It started to form white and greenish/black mold 1 week into incubation. I bought some anti-fungal foot powder and applied it twice. And the mold continues to spread over the egg ever so slowly.

It does not appear to be on any other eggs. At what point should i remove it from the clutch or even the incubator?

Here is a pic right after they were laid. If you look at the eggs that is on the right, the one in the middle, you will see the slight boob end.

here is a pic of the mold (from a different angle then above) taken today

btw, the white powder you see on the egg and a little on the vermic is the anti-fugal powder NOT the mold

Have you tried candling it since the mold got this bad? Is it still worth saving?
Have you tried an anti-fungal spray instead of a powder? A liquid might cover the mold more completely.

Scrape off mold - apply foot powder - repeat as needed.

Good luck!

It still looks pretty good to me. The boob part is a dead part of the egg so it is more likely to mold. The rest of the egg looks just fine...its when most of the egg has mold on it and it smells bad that you need to worry. How many days in are you?

As Tosha said, scrape off mold, everyday, apply powder, every couple of days.

Thx everyone, i just candled it again and it and another showed NO viens.

This really sucks. Its my first het pied to het pied clutch. The female was a virgin and i have been working on this project for 3 years. So 3 of the 5 are viened and look good. Until this boob one and the other are consumed with mold ill treat them as they are still good.

Ill scrap and reapply the powder as Tosha suggested.

On a side note, i do have 8 perfectly viened 66% het pied to het pied eggs in the bator as well.

Wish me luck

I think You can get that Egg to pull thou, I would just wipe away the Mold and apply Liquid Bandaid. I do this to all eggs that are partly Shelled, just cover that area.. It will seal off any shepage and prevent farther problems that Egg may Give YOU. Try it, You'll like it.
