Do you suffer from BBAS?

boaphile Jun 18, 2009 03:16 PM

You know a big part of the problem is particularly unique to Boa people. I have talked to many other Herpers of various stripes, and it seems to be particularly common in Boa guys. I call this BBAS for "Best Boa Acquisition Syndrome". That is many Boa people simply cannot bring themselves to obtain an animal from a given litter that someone else has produced, if they know that somewhere, a better baby is being secreted away from that litter and is out of their reach. This is the "Best Boa Acquisition Syndrome" in action. Now most Boa guys do not see this as the problem that it is. They have convinced themselves that anything less than the best male from a litter or the best female from a litter could not possibly ever produce babies of the quality that they deserve.

This malady will possess and control a fellow, or gal as the case may be, into not making the necessary steps to in fact engage and eventually get the most spectacular animals possible the old fashioned way. That is of course by making there own. Some have the luxury of picking and choosing and wresting those spectacular animals from the tight grip of the beautiful Boa owners who fall victim to that outrageous high cash offer, or in a weak moment of need relinquish that special animal they should only keep for themselves. This is the plague that sweeps across the computer monitors of Boa keepers everywhere rendering the viewer helpless to it’s death grip. Break free I say! Break free from the "I gotta have the best and forget the rest" mentality!

You can make some of the best of whatever it is you would like to make using animals that are NOT the very best of the best. I have personally proven that over and over. I have always tried to get the best from breeders, but absent that, I have not found myself crippled by the BBAS. I consider myself fortunate to have avoided it for these many years. Perhaps we need a twelve step program to help those who cannot seem to get out of the BBAS grip. Break the chains I say! The water my not be perfect and the animals you will have in your charge may not be the best that cross your computer monitor, but the babies you produce can be! Welcome out of the lonely world of BBA Syndrome and into the light!

Come now Sir. Trying to fight the BBAS is a silly notion at best.
We who share the BBAS know that representation is the main focus that plagues us. Quality is our standard not quantity! Sir we are simply conisours! This is not a disease I say but a way of life!

Ok I'm starting to have flash backs of the MAN telling me my addiction is bad! Admittance is of course step one( which is the worst mistake you can do because then the MAN has you! Now he expects you to pay for treatment which in this case must be the aquisition of the not so best of the best!Come on DR Phile I know you haven't had your babies yet and your black hole is gettin full so I guess if you want I'll be more than happy to ADOPT and raise some of your babies, but If I have to pay for food and lodging you have to donate and ship!

Always Holding Back the Best Babies!!

I find it hard to part with the best one(s) of any litter. Not so bad at first but when you start having lots of litters, that equates to even more holdbacks.
