Soak Tub Tempatures

Rowebert Jun 18, 2009 09:11 PM

I gave my new 7' female Burmese a small walk-in closet to live in and put a 40qt. Sterilite tub to soak in. I put on of those garden bricks in for support and to keep it from tipping over when she gets in or out. I temped it at 79-80 deg. Is this ok, because she stays in there all the time. Room temp is 85 and the hot hide is around 89.

I suggest moving it closer to the hot end to raise the temperature to between 82 - 85.

Actually, a soak tub isn't necessary for Burmese Pythons. In fact, if a Burmese Python soaks a lot, they're trying to tell you that something's wrong. Could be that the humidity level is too low, mites, temperatures are off, dehydration (usually coincides with low humidity and/or chronic dehydration due to other reasons), etc...

Best wishes!

The hydrometer says 50%, I don't think that's quite high enough. I might have to put down some substrate other than newspaper to raise the level. Is OK to leave the tub in there, because she seems to like it. I will post some pics of the cage later today.

"The hydrometer says 50%,"

Depends on whether it's a quality, accurate, hydrometer. The lil' round dial types and the strips commonly sold in pet stores aren't very accurate. I use a digital indoor/outdoor thermometer with hydrometer built in.

50% isn't bad, but I feel 60 - 65% is better.

"Is OK to leave the tub in there.."

Sure. She knows what she needs so give her choices. I just wanted to let you know that it was a bandaid and not a solution for the underlying problem. A lil' bit of trial & error and you'll get it figured out.

Hang in there!
