Feeding schedule

vichris Jun 18, 2009 11:35 PM

How often do you all feed your turtles? I have prepared food that I feed 2-3 three times weekly. They also eat some natural stuff like pill bugs, dandy lions, and other natural forage. Sometimes they don't eat everything given to them but the other turtles will finish it off. They always seem eager to feed or it may be that they just really like the prepared food.

3-4 times a week. Mine get mostly moist dog food, some fruit, along with superworms, which I am trying to produce myself. Plus I've got a worm bed out in the backyard, and they get earthworms from there.

3x per week or about every other day. Mine have foraging opportunities but I still supplement with a well rounded meal.

2-3 times a week depending on weather, if it's going to rain I don't bother because it will get messy and there are tons of worms in the soil and when it rains they come up to the surface and the turtles gorge themselves on them, if fact I watched them eating worms from my bedroom window today while it was raining. Also there are an abundance and variety of insects due to my entire backyard is either vegetable garden or wild flower garden. If I don't feed them for 4-5 days they just eat more, if I have time and feed every other day they eat less, nobody is starving, plus they can and sometimes do eat the dandelions if they get desperate. Lately I have been picking strawberries by the gallons from my patch in the backyard and any that are a bit too far I give to the turtles as a treat, they love them, but maybe not as much as I enjoy strawberries with ice cream and chocolate sauce or home made strawberry dacari or margaritas, oh yeah!!!

Once they are in their outside pens, I feed them 1 - 2 times per week. They have plenty of natural food in their pens that they seem to prefer anyway! I just supplement to make sure they are getting enough. Sometimes they eat it, sometimes not.

When they are indoors, I feed them 2 - 3 times per week.
