who uses corrugated?

AbsoluteApril Jun 19, 2009 02:00 PM

I've been using newspaper for years with my collection. It works great and makes clean up a breeze however I do notice a couple of my boas don't seem to 'like' it (when first placed back into the clean enclosure they crawl around while trying to lift their body up a little, looks uncomfortable).

I work for a packaging supplier and have been considering switching to single face corrugated. Most of the corrugated we had was over $30/roll and the ladies I work with donate their newspapers to me, so it wasn't economical for me to make the switch. However we got the A-flute for a good deal now so it's looking a lot more tempting.

I'd like to hear from people that use single face, how do you like it? If you used to use newspaper, did you notice a difference with the boas behaviour?

Right now I just tear the newspaper down the middle (and again for the smaller cages), fold up the sides and put about 10 layers in each cage. how many layers do you use with corruagted? Do you fold up the sides?

Thanks for any thoughts on the subject.

(trying to kill some time, my boa is on 103 days POS and it's making me very antsy! lol)

I've been using newspaper for years too.

Ever since I started using corugated on my big cages I won't use anything else.

Super absorbent and looks good to.

I use it - and I love it . I can't say for certain that my Boas like it more , but I don't see how they could like it any less . I like it more than newspaper, but I still use newsprint for sub-adult racks and smaller tubs.

I pre-cut the roll , and use two 26" sheets per 4 ft cage ( a couple of inches overlap in the middle) - this way if they pooh in the corner , I only have to roll up and clean that half of the cage. That's a "Dave Collings savings trick" . The bummer for me is that the price has gone up at the retail paper-supply store that I usually get it from ,but I like it enough to still buy it.

Yeah, it's a pain with all the prices going up. I haven't heard of any more increases being announced for paper mills but that is only good for about 30-6o days it seems.

I do think I will stick with newspaper for the small tubs.
Thanks!

I use newspaper on smaller tubs, but use Textured Kraft paper on the biggest snakes. Used to use the one sided corrugated. Just seem to like the textured Kraft Paper better. Don't know if it is any cheaper or not.

I really wanted to use the indented textured kraft, but we don't stock that type and I would have to buy a full pallet which just isn't feasable. Too bad tho because I like the way it looks.

I use it and love it.

I've been using 4' wide stuff for some time. I think I'm going to switch to 2' wide the next time around. I like the idea about only cleaning one side when they poop in a corner.

I use textured kraft paper in my sub-adult racks.

April,

I have used newspaper, indented craft paper and corrugated. The corrugated works the best! I buy the 2 feet roll from uline and I take a couple hours after I get it to pre cut it so that it fits my cages and I stack all the cut board on top of my cages so that it is easily available to clean cages when needed. To clean I just roll it take it out and put in a new one. Sometimes the boas do find a way to get underneath the board but not often. I also like this board because I have noticed it gives good traction to the boas when moving around.

Thanks,
Angel

Thanks Angel! We've got stock on 3' and 4' rolls so I have a feeling I'll be doing a lot more cutting. I can't wait to give it a shot.

Thank you for sharing the pics, I like how you fold up the back part.
