Have a potentially gravid female normal. Does anyone know a good overall specific dimension for a brood box? Open top or closed in like a hide box? I have one in her cage that is about a foot and a half square, close top, and about six inches tall. Would that work fine? Now for the statement(s).
Wild caught verses captive bred...
My wife and I have both types. One is the above mentioned ball. She is ltc, roughly nine to ten years old as a guess. When my wife met me early last year she already had her and another ball. They were kept seperate in two twenty gal cages. My first impression of the wc snake was less than stellar. She would hiss and put on a really good show when she did not want to be fooled with, which was pretty much all of the time. I had no interest in her at all since I had no experience with snakes at all. Last summer they were moved and housed together in a 75 gallon tank. With the larger space and less traffic area, she has settled down a lot. I will handle her now from time to time, but she still has her days when she wishes to be left alone. The other wc snake is a Guyana red tail. Purchased while in blue from someone who hand picked her for us. Pissy and defensive while in shed, but after shedding has been a dream ever since. The rest of ours are captive bred from various breeders from around the country and have a variety of temperments and personalities. Yes I used personalities. I percieve them to have some personality. We have one columbian that will fall asleep while my wife caresses him under the jaw. He was a return to Petco that we purchased and was in pretty bad shape. He has flourished greatly while in our care and is my wifes favorite. The two wc snakes are for the most part hardier and healthier then our captive bred snakes, but all get very good attention. I prefer to keep my money in the states and support our own economy. I think that a wild snake should be just that...wild. We only have the two wc. That should be enough of that. There are enough here already. Let's finance our own businesses, not the skin/meat trade. More on the habits and attitudes of our snakes later if anyone is interested in our observations. Sorry this was a long post. Thanks.
Daniel
