Stub-tailed Dragons

ekpunobi Sep 14, 2003 04:19 PM

My local reptile shop is selling what they are calling "Stub-tailed" dragons. They have shorter tails with rounded ends. They say they are just the same, just with shorter tails. They are much cheaper than the other bearded dragons. Can anyone tell me if these are the same? Or are they a different species?

Sounds like dragons that have had their tails bitten off when they were babies.

I think so too, especially since they are cheaper. Same lovable dragons, just a shorter tail.
If this happened while in the store's care, that's a sign that they may not have been fed enough.
One of the pet stores here had a plate of frozen veggies, they were larger then the little dragons heads! I'm sure they are starving! Argh!

I called the pet store today, and they did say that these are injuries. What amazes me is that each one seems so like the other. This is the only halfway decent pet store near me. I used to think they were great, but since I have been reading more about bearded dragons, I think they could do a much better job. Their snakes look really nice and their cages are always clean, but they do have way too many baby dragons per tank. I'm not sure if the injuries happened there. They seem to feed all of their animals very well. Perhaps with so many in a tank, their tails sometimes get in between a cricket and another baby's mouth! Ouch, that's gotta hurt. Other than that, the store seems to really take good care of their animals. This does disappoint me, though, because even if the injuries didn't happen there, I don't like the idea of them supporting a breeder who has so many babies getting their tails lopped off. They must have 20 of these.
