Little worms on my eggs

tsusnakeguy Jun 19, 2009 08:00 PM

Ok its not worms but I needed to get the right attention. I had fruit flies around my eggs when I had the bad eggs in there. They bad eggs are gone and the flies are gone, but they apparently laid eggs and it looks like their larva are crawling on the outside of my egg. I am worried they will get in the egg. The egg has plumped back up now that I have fixed some moisture issues. Does anyone have any idea about the larva.

They were not fruit flies. They were carrion flies. They've laid eggs and now you have carrion fly maggots, which can kill snake eggs.

Your best bet would be to set up a new incubation box for your eggs and move the eggs to it. Before doing so, clean the eggs using a very soft toothbrush and slightly warm water. This will hopefully remove any maggots/eggs.

You can throw your old incubation box away, or if you want to reuse it, freeze it for a couple of days to kill off fly eggs/larva.
