MDF Enclosure

xxBellxx09 Jun 19, 2009 11:50 PM

Question: I'm making a coupe style cage out of MDF but I'm not sure what width to use (1/2 or 3/4). Half seems sturdy enough but I'm worried that driving a screw through it will bust through warping it. Wondering if anyone has any ideas or has worked with MDF in this manner. thx plan to start on the cage soon. The cage will house a California King and a Pueblan Milksnake (yet to be purchased).

From my experience with cages I would definately go with the 3/4.....

What would you use to seal the MDF?

I was considering building an enclosure out of MDF and lining the inside with Con-tact paper.

use an 1/8 inch drill bit and drill pilot holes or use a pneumatic finish gun and shoot 1 1/2 or 2 inch finish nails in it

Be careful using MDF. If its not sealed extremly well it will swell like crazy. If you do use it you'll ptobably need the thick stuff if the cage is gonna be very big. I use 1/2" plywood. It seems to hold up better
