Hey guys, I am on a quest for information and we are going back many years….so this is just a shot in the dark. I need some information on an albino Eastern Diamondback. There have been so few collected from the wild, I am hoping someone can recall some details.
This snake was collected from the wild in FL, so we think, in the late 1980’s. It was exported to Germany to a private collector who paid an outrageous amount for it. The snake was male and a sub-adult.
The German who bought the snake, only got one litter from him. They were born in 1998. The albino died shortly after that. There are only two snakes left in the world carrying that strain of the albino gene. One is still in Germany and a friend in Germany sent me the other one last week. I would love to be able to breed him back to females form his original area, but where it was found has been lost with time and the death of the owner.
Does anyone recall anything about an albino caught in the last 80’s and sent to Germany? There was only a hand full of people exporting rattlesnakes back then, so it would have had to have ran thru Glade’s, Crutchfeild, or someone in business. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
