Found injured turtle

nyoka7 Jun 21, 2009 10:56 AM

Hi Everyone,
We found a box turtle on the road this morning on the road near a field. The shell is intact but a small amount of blood is coming from the front/side. The turtle will not come out of his/her shell so we can't see how bad the injury is! It's been hours since we found him. When touching his/her back foot, the turtle hisses. So we know he/she is alive!
What can be done?! Heat? Any way to get the turtle to come out?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
thanks!

If I were in that situation I would either take it to a herp vet or wildlife rehabber to let them do a proper check, or I would take it back to the area where it was found and put it back in some shade.
A pro will determine whether or not it is seriously injured. If not, let nature take its course.
Unless you're qualified or prepared to pay for/relinquish the care for it, you should probably let it go.
