Requesting help with subspecies ID

tegud Sep 14, 2003 05:04 PM

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Went to a home to recieve some colubrids that were being surrendured, and the owner asked me to take this animal as well. I have Leos and a crested, and just want to know what this guy is so I can get the habitat right. He is taking crickets.

Ingo is right. In the end it really doesn't matter, but here goes: Bibroni and turneri are almost identical (they are separated by the number of chin scales). However, true bibroni are EXTREMELY rare in the US because they only occur in South Africa (rarely exports), whereas turneri is found over a much larger area. So any geckos sold as Pachydactylus bibroni are almost certainly Pachydactylus turneri, and probably from Tanzania.
