Leaking eggs...

foxturtle Jun 21, 2009 01:23 PM

I've had a few healthy looking eggs this year start leaking and go bad. Has anyone successfully recovered an egg that started leaking? I've thought about painting some nail polish/clear coat over the leaking spot to see if that would seal it back up.

......why are they leaking?....
weak ends?....
are fly larvae getting in them? or eating the ends open?...
...
I have tried to tape them shut, used little stickers, didn't work well, has worked a little ....

...nail polish might kill them right away....

....liquid skin!...yea...try liquid skin , band aid might make it???....

No flies. It's like a soft or thin spot on the egg where the albumen is leaking out... slowly. There's no visible hole. More like the egg is sweating.

This is just a stab in the dark because I don't know the whole picture but you may be able to stop this by reducing overall humidity or moisture in the incubator. I experiences something similar in the early years and now tend to incubate with high humidity and low actual moisture.

I agree, less moisture in contact with the eggs, but high-enough humidity.

When I had eggs leak, it was because I had too much moisture in the egg medium in contact with the eggs. I reduced the moisture and taped the leak points. All went well from there on.

It may be a moisture thing. I've had this happen with a few eggs from separate clutches. I lost 2 eggs right away in one clutch. I have another clutch thats 3-4 weeks in and one of the eggs started leaking. I applied some liquid bandage to the leaky part, and it has stopped leaking. The egg does not feel as full as it should, but it does not look dead.
