Update on PET-CO rescue, Please Look

timmah Jun 21, 2009 04:49 PM

Ok, so i am sure you guys have looked at the tiny tiny beardy i rescued from Pet-Co.

I have had him for about a month now, he is still skinny, and he still wont eat dark greens, moist beardy food. The only thing he will eat is about 2 crickets per day, which does not seem a lot to me. I do spray water on his nose everyday and he drinks it up, so thats good. He has grown roughly inch or so. He also does not move much like my others, his legs and arms are stiff and he sometimes just falls off his branch from not even holding on. He also does this wierd leg walk, although i think that may be from him thinking the grounds hot and thats just the "hot walk." I am running the 10.0 strip uv light so i would guess he is getting enough rays, on his hot spot its about 8 inches from him.

Today i got tired of him wasting greens i put in there so i decided to try some kind of force feed technique. I tore off a tiny piece of collard greens and started it in his mouth, once he opened and got a taste he chomped the piece down, i did the same with a moist dragon food square. I don't think its hurting him and if it gets his greens in him everyday i have no problem doing it until he realizes there an easier way to do it. Even when i put crickets in the cage he doesn't get all excited and chase them, he just waits until they walk by then eats them.

Thats weird because all my other dragons have the cage half torn apart trying to jump out to get to the food i am bringing in the cage.

I don't know if lizards can be mentally retarded but who knows.

I think i may try to raise the temps alittle more in the cage to get him more active, hotspot is 110-115(75watt baskig), cool side is 85

I wouldn't raise the temps. The symptoms you describe "could" be from a dragon getting too hot. A problem in 10 gal. tanks. There is no cure unfortunately. Hopefully yours will grow out of it. I have an adult that suffers from this condition.
