Not bad for the Northwest.

tokaysrnice Jun 21, 2009 06:14 PM

Went out to Wilson wildlife area in west central Oregon yesterday and we didn't do to bad. We didn't have a lot of time so sorry for the in hand shots. The weather was weird in the mid sixties with mixed rain and sun but the snakes were still active in force.

One Rock, 15 ringnecks

One tin, 2 Gophers

2 rocks, 3 gophers and a handfull of northwest garters.

A good looking red spotted, I love the cherry heads of this locality

A very blue Racer

A nice looking young Gopher....

Who will probably end up looking like this...

Totals for the hours of 6pm to 9pm
10-15 Pituophis cantinefer cantinifer
20-25 Diadophis punctatus occidentalis
1 Coluber constrictor mormon
5 Thamnophis sirtalis concinnus
15-20Thamnophis ordinoides

Not to bad for 3 hours of work.

Thanks for looking,
Nate

Great for three hours! That garter is stunning! T.marcianus doesn't even come close, all we have down here.

That's all? lol

Amazing numbers. I would love to see that kind of density.

The closest I've come in the So Cal desert was 8 sidewinders in about 5 minutes of walking.

Thanks all it was a good day out.

I have never seen the density in snakes that this place produced. The weather has been favorable lately and I'm seeing some of the largest numbers of snakes in places I have been going to for 10 or more years, this was my first at this spot but it doesn't surprise me.
