Waiting can be so hard

AbsoluteApril Jun 22, 2009 10:56 AM

I’ve only bred my boas a few times, got my first 2 litters in 2003, then a litter in 2006 and am trying again for 2009 (hmm every 3 years seems to be trend?). I try to be patient, really I do. But the waiting is so darn hard….

She’s temped at 86-88 throughout gestation and this past week been spending more time than normal on the cool end, temping between 82-86. Day 103 POS:

I spent Saturday with my dad, hoping to come home to a litter. I spent some of Sunday watching VHS tapes of the boaphile breeding video and ’98 video price list (fun way to kill some time!). Still she keeps me waiting. Snapped this pic last night through the cage door, at 105 days POS.

Things are looking good, I’ve been keeping my fingers crossed but I don’t know how much more my heart can take this waiting. :D

Good luck to everyone else that is also patiently waiting on their litters! It sure has been a fun season with some amazing animals produced so far. Gotta love this hobby!

Why wait 3 years every time?

AbsoluteApril Jun 22, 2009 11:32 AM

>>Why wait 3 years every time?

No real reason, it's just a hobby for me. I've got a couple '01 girls that I'll probably try for the first time this next season.

I try not to draw lines because it's in my nature to cross them :P

Joel_Thomas Jun 22, 2009 11:57 AM

The waiting is what makes the getting so rewarding

I have heard it said that it is best for those who breed their animals to take up other hobbies during this time of year.

Good luck and it looks like any day now

very true. I don't really have other hobbies besides reading and drawing (which I need to do more of) although I have been spending a lot of time playing the Xbox360 lately... when I can pry the controller away from my man that is lol

Thanks for the well wishes Joel!

The wait never gets any easier!! Just look at Jeff, he's counting the days since his last litter. I'm still waiting for two more girls due the end of this week, one will likely drop any day and the other will be late just to try my patience!!!

Then it's start a whole nuther wait, for all my BRB litters to drop....

Then introduce my BCI and wait for them to start breeding.....

Then introduce my BRB's and wait for them to start breeding.....

Then wait for the BCI litters to drop......

And so on and so on........

Hey, I'm waiting for my next two litters also, both due Friday and both females are getting restless.

Today is day 326 for me and 115 days past the POS for my first due date. These Boas! You buy them. Clean them. Feed them. Put all your sweat and tears into them. What do they do? They take their stinking time to have those babies you have been anticipating for so long.

Soon I hope Dave, soon.

NEVER gets easier. Only thing that does help is having many babies already to care for and keep you busy.

I'm betting the reverse stripe did not take. Does not look gravid to me.

The two I do have are...

DH Sunglow bred by Sunglow

Coral ALbino bred by Nick Stones Hypo Cyclone.

I also have a Super Salmon pos Jungle that was bred by a Jungle but again, not sure on her. Really expecting only two more spins of the slot machine in the BCI breeding groups this year.

Yeah, I know exactly how you feel. I haven't bred any for about
3 years too.

I'm not too anxious this year because the pairing I really
wanted didn't work out. My silverbacks didn't even get past
3rd base this year.

I managed to pair up a very nice possible super hypo harlyquin
& a stripeline albino. The thing is, I didn't write down any of
the shed dates & she had two sheds. So I'm patiently waiting.
She is really getting huge so it can't be too much longer now.

She's actually at 108 days from POS (and 126 days from ovulation) her due date was 6/21. I couldn't find my records from her prior litter but I remember she went a couple days longer than 105 last time as well.

I like your idea of a rain dance. I'm planning on giving her a really good rain (heavy misting) tonight in hopes it gets things going.

I guess it's always better if they go a little longer as opposed to dropping them too early. It's just tough to be patient and not bother her too much. (haha spell check! I spelled little as litter, you can see where my mind is)

Can't wait to see what else you produce this year Dave! I loved so much of what you got so far, those super ghosts are awesome, but I really liked those 4 babies from your first litter (I can't remember what female they were from). Take some updated pics to post (plus it'll kill some time lol).
Have a great day,

That's actually better, IMO much better to go over than under.

As to the heavy misting tonight..... your call but I'm thinking it's not a good idea to induce labor. She is already showing signs of getting ready, I'd let nature take it's course. Might be a good idea to provide a nice nest box??

Thanks for the kind words on my babies so far. Those first four babies were from Candy.

you're right Mr Voice of Reason, I need to be patient, just had a moment of weakness. My original plan was not to mist her until Saturday which would be 111 days POS, I need to stick to that. I may not like it, but it is the better plan. Nature usually knows what is best. Thank you
