gestation question

54podge Jun 22, 2009 02:30 PM

I visually witnessed by Brooks getting busy on May 26th and 27th. From what I have read here, it should be 6 weeks before the eggs are laid (?), however, she went into blue 2 days ago and I expect her to shed tonight or tomorrow. Shouldn't this shed be in conjunction with the egg laying? She is plump as a pickle, but we are only hitting 4 weeks tomorrow?

after she sheds put her in a lay box. she should lay right away if the lay box is done right otherwise it will be about 10 days.

I have a plastic shoebox with a 2" diameter hole in the top. Inside, I have sphagum moss that is just moist enough to cause a SMALL amount of condensation on the lid. She loves it in there, and disappears into it for a couple days at a time. Does this sound OK?

Sounds okay to me if the snake thinks so. It is all really up to the individual snake but I have more success with using an entire sweater box tub filled . I lay boards in there and black plastic bags. They like that kind of stuff and gives them choices.

Wow, that sounds like an excellent idea. If you could post a pic of tht setup, that would be awesome.

Don't have a pic. It is just a sweater box ( some use larger containers for lay boxes) filled with your favorite mix of 3" (peat, sand, coco husk, perlite ect)and place a board or plate (use glass if you want to watch the snake nesting) They also seem to like trash a lot or plastic bags (black)(they use A/C in nature to) . I have ex[permented with other things like paper bags, egg cartons, cardboard, plastic lids. Basically anything you can find. Try and experiment and see what works best for your setup and situation.. .

It is all about providing a spot your snakes want to "nest". There are many threads on here by FR regarding nesting. Check the 'search function' for posts by FR and nesting.
