yes. If they can get their heads through they probably will get their bodies through as well..or die in the attempt.

yes, if they can get their head through they can escape.
I did the same thing but luckily there was just enough room for me to put the lids on the sterilite containers. Kind of a hassle but they work, and no escapes. I did it on the first adult rack I built so I just built the other two to match.

If you want, you can get pine molding, such as 1/2 inch quarter-round, and glue it to the ceiling of each rack compartment around the perimeter of the tub except the front.

Then in front, you can add a strip of thin molding (they sell 5/32 thick screen molding) right under the lip of the slot just above the box. I've had to do this for the same reasons you did.

Instead of wood molding you can use strips of 1/8 inch expanded PVC. I used this too with construction adhesive (so its removable if you ever have to).

And finally, you can simply just prop the boxes up with felt pads and forgo the above suggestions. Makes the boxes slide nicely too.

i have just built my first rack as well on som eof mine i have the bins too tight and hard to pull out. So I have learned my lesson. I am going to start leaving a lil more of a gap.

I built a rack a few months ago and some of the tubs had gaps a little larger then I was comfortible with. I just ran a strip of foil tape along each side and added layers until I was happy with the new gap. Probably not a good solution for large gabs but awesome for fine tuning.

I know that Tim Spuckler over at Third Eye Herp has at least one rack that utilizes long threaded rods at the main support system. This allows the space between the racks to be adjusted to fit precisely any tub that may be used in the rack. I don't have a pix, but maybe he will post one with comments.....I'm just sayin'
