thinking about getting arrow frogs.

B_Lodge Sep 14, 2003 05:51 PM

I have never had frogs before, but I am thinking about starting with some arrow frogs. I was wondering what I should know about them before getting them or if i should start with an other kind of frog and then later get arrow frogs. I dont want to be one of thoes people who get an animal and dont take care of it right, I really hate people who do that.

Hi there!

I wouldn't say that I've progressed to expert level yet but I have kept darts successfully for about a year. You might want to check out some of the excellent sites on dart frog husbandry such as www.doylesdartden.com. Sean Stewart (www.herpetologic.net) and Patrick Nabors (www.saurian.net) also have frog care sheets on their sites. You might want to look at those as well.

I think perhaps the most distinguishing characteristic of dart frog care is providing a continuous food supply. For most, this means making up fruitfly cultures weekly or every other week. If this is totally ok with you then I think that's a good start.

A lot of people who are dart frog beginners start off here so there are many posts like yours. You might want to check some of them out. Or you can always email me. My email address is ksh6@cornell.edu

Later,
Ken

Hi,
If you have any questions, first check out my site, www.yeagersfrogs, then feel free to email me. I have around 12 years keeping and breeding them, and though I no longer keep them, I do study them in the wild now instead. I guess I am one of the more experienced people here, but still just a beginner in the grand scheme.
Best,
Justin
