evolutionary advancement of chamaeleonidae question

alanvines Sep 14, 2003 06:14 PM

Most organisms in a family which contains more than one genus and species have a "most advanced" and "least advanced". Is there a "most advanced" chamaeleo? a "least advanced"? What is their closest living relative? Parsonii seems to be at one end of this spectrum or the other, and other species seem so vastly different as to be higher or lower on evolutionary scale. Perhaps Chamaeleo chameleo is the "least advanced" with no ornamentation and widespread distribution? If there is a website on this subject please post, I would appreciate it greatly, thanks.

what type of advanced?....internally,externaly,mentaly?

Most advanced at color changes? most advanced at fighting/eating/hiding/breeding/look cool?....It can be like dogs border collies are the smartest but we all know chameleons can fetch a ball

I see your point. I am encountering the pitfalls of chameleon taxonomy and the apparent absense of recent fossil anscesters i suppose, plus an absense of precise info on the subject in general.
