In response to:

"well jerry ALL snakes bred in captivity are "creations" whether they are from the same hillside/sp./ssp./genus or not. you think your Z's arent captive creations???
also you must not know lgg because these look nothing like chainkings."

First and foremost, I really dislike the word "must". I "must not know"......how do you know that? At first glance, I thought your little concoctions were, in fact, chain kings......until I took a closer look. Try to not be so absolute.....it's like making assumptions. Not good.

Secondly, the kind of creations in my camp are relatively linear and come from relatively the same areas thus bred as true as possible. A nigra and a campbelli? You then have something quite different there Magillicuddy.....and you know that of course. Don't you????

Oh my God, I just fell out of my chair looking at that photo!!! Where can I get one?

jlassiter Jun 23, 2009 11:59 PM

Jerry...I am on your side of the hybrid controversy, but what all of us do in our hobby is "selective propagation"....even with locale specific animals found yards from one another.

What snakes do while breeding in their locale is not known by us....We do not know what wild pairs will breed....Multiple mates, etc.......What we do know is this...."Natural Selection" takes place.....

Yes...Your animals are 'pure'....And great looking specimens to boot....

And yes...Thomas Davis' hybrid is neat looking IMHO, but I wouldn't want one...many people do want these 'crosses' though...So to each his own....

Regards,

Whew....I hate the tension sometimes, but felt the need to stretch my legs a bit. Again, I understand wholly what you're saying, and YES, to a great degree we selectively breed in captivity. That's herp-stuff 101......I was and will always refer to the completely unnatural selection of taking two distinct creatures that come nowhere in contact in the wild and then manipulate that under captive conditions. I don't and will never, ever fathom that. Others get their kicks, fabulous.

As far as Tom, I was just being humorous about the "mad scientist" gig and wished 'em well with what he produced. No harm, no foul. But then to take it a step further? Okaaaay.....*ding, ding*......Round 1. LOL.

Jerry, I wish you lived closer. We are both still up---might as well go road cruising!!! Ha ha. We need to go to bed before we get a different kind of time out!

JKruse Jun 24, 2009 12:20 AM

Funny, i was just thinking the same thing when I saw you up with a "new" post.....but the Mrs woke up about 15 minutes ago to do work on her laptop and I'm floating between my work laptop and personal laptop.......as well as thawing HOPPER MICE for my ADULT z's.........LOL. Multi-tasking at its finest......and I would absolutely kill to go road cruising in the Barrens after having had all this rain. Christ, now I'll never get to sleep thinkin' like this.

Oh yeah, glad you're happy with the z's. Small pinks now.....you try shoving an adult mouse dowmn it's throat my guarantee is null and void. LMFAO...

jerry my name is thomas.
lets address some things...

>First and foremost, I really dislike the word "must". I "must not know"......how do you know that? At first glance, I thought your little concoctions were, in fact, chain kings......until I took a closer look. Try to not be so absolute.....it's like making assumptions. Not good.

>>> i didnt assume anything. the fact is these crosses look NOTHING like chainkings and anyone that knows lgg could tell without doubt at a glance. concoctions? no, cool one of a kind captive creations? yes

>Secondly, the kind of creations in my camp are relatively linear and come from relatively the same areas thus bred as true as possible. A nigra and a campbelli? You then have something quite different there Magillicuddy.....and you know that of course. Don't you????

>>>well thats nice and locality breeding is cool. of course even individuals found under the same rock MAY NOT have bred in the wild we simply dont no what selections are made in the wild but you of course know and understand that dont you??? and hey im glad you are into being linear, im not i wanna push the limits. i am sorry if that offends you, well actually im not its my right. and ftr there were no tricks used at all in this pairing. simply housed together with hope and viola! nature happens.
