are there any living super motleys adult

micahdenton Jun 24, 2009 12:55 AM

I've heard that super motleys die at about 22 months from a number of people. So if you make super motleys while they live? and are there any pics of adult super motleys? i remember someone posted that they had a 3 year old they breed this season but the only pic they posted was of it as a baby. So are adults out there or not? I think you can make the red devil using a hypo Sonoran rather then a Colombian hypo but why make one if it's only going to die?

That is a very good question. All this talk about the Super form
of the Motley really makes me nervous. Although the 1st Gen is
ok, the 2nd is not. Same with the Super Jungle. Scary stuff. One
day with MUCH OUTCROSSING, there might be hope? And as for the
Sonoran Hypo in replacement for the Columbian? Has it been done?
I would think Hypo is a Hypo no matter what form, and if Motley
and Hypo are on the same Locus, I doubt it would be possble
either way. Does the CA have the Red Devil yet? Maybe if there
is there would be soe light shed, but who to ask.....

I'd like to see someone cross a Sonoran hypo with one of Rich Ihle's salmon (AKA hypo) boas and find out if they have the same locus. They may not. Just using the same word for two things does not necessarily make them the same. If it did, then albino boas would all be the same. Instead, we have Kahl albino, Sharp albino, caramel albino, and an assortment of T positive albinos.

I'm getting more skeptical of the idea that motley and salmon hypo have the same locus. A couple of more red devils were born last year (see the link). One could be a fluke, but three is starting to look like a pattern.

To my knowledge that has not been done! We are going to try that route this coming season! And not that it helps but in two separete litters this year we did get one normal boa from a hypo mot litter and a hypomot in another litter. Females where het albino. So what is really going on is still a little bit of a mystery!

To add to the mystery. I bred a moonglow to a motley poss het. The only albino I got was a snow. The anery gene also fell on ALL the motley genes, but on none of the hypo motleys. I also didnt get any anery hets nor and ghost het moonglows. Just thought it was weird.

That's exciting information! If linkage is the answer, that baby hypo motley is a treasure.
