HR 669 will most likely cause more pythons to be released into the wild. I don't know if Congress realizes this, but I hope they figure it out before it's too late. Here's another thought Congress -- instead of wasting money on new, stricter laws that will separate thousands from their pets, why don't you just enforce the laws that we already have (gasp!)?

In all honesty this is something many pet owners have been asking for years. Breed specific legislation. MUST BAN BREEDS. They keep running around loose and biting people. Well isnt there a law already on the books in regards to containing dogs? If we enforced CURRENT laws, there would be no need for bans. Of course it is FAR easier to add laws rather than enforce current laws. Adding a new law shows the public the government is being proactive to help you. Pointing out the lack of enforcement makes them look bad.

I do urge all reptile keepers to start paying attention to not only the reptile laws, but all the proposed animal legislations. Find the localities that are pushing for bans of things. I have noticed that cities that ban certain breeds of dogs are also pretty quick to follow up with bans on reptiles or other exotics. Or they usually have them on the books.

So keep your ears and eyes open for all restrictive laws in regards to pet ownership. As both a reptile keeper and an american pit bull terrier keeper I do!
