Carlsbad locale...

greenroomscott Jun 24, 2009 06:42 PM

Hi Everyone -

I've been a big fan of this forum for the last 4 years or so.
It's been great coming here just about every day and learning
from you all.

Since I know how well pics are received by everyone here are
some photos of a pair of Carlsbad, CA locale kings that I fished
out of a neighbors yard yesterday. We find these guys a few
times a year which is nice (reinforces that even though we live
in a heavily developed part of SD county snakes are still able
to make it work). I took these shots and then moved into a
canyon a short distance away.

It's interesting the two were together -- mates maybe? They
were looks like they could be 2 years old but I'm clueless when
it comes it comes to sexing snakes at this point (yet another thing to learn!).

Anyway, here's a few pics (love the color on these guys):

Very nice.

Looks like my new guy could be from there.

I need to get a better pic of mine.

Wow, those are nice. Those are the Cal Kings I remember as a kid (in pet stores, I lived in FL). Everyone loves the B&W, and they are nice too, but it seems almost to the exclusion of the brown/yellow ones, which I think are just beautiful. Very nice.

I too have always prefered the brown and yellow.

When I was younger a nature show I saw showed a brown and yellow cal king eating a rattler. I was sold then.

Of course I didn't get one until this month but still....

Very cool, Scott. Those are awesome. I'm still fascinated by the subtle variability of Cal Kings from their different locales.
