evercraig190 Jun 24, 2009 07:01 PM

hi yall, i have kept many lizards and reptiles and i have been out of the loop for awhile..i had a uromastyx and he escaped and i havent seen him since...so i purhcased a beardie (hypo/het leusistic and he has clear nails) from a local breeder...my question has to do with his setup...i have him in a 20gal right now because he is a baby but my question has to do with heat/lighting...what wattage should i use to make sure i dont over heat him? thanks for your time...

Best way to figure out the right wattage for your cage is to use a digital thermometer with a probe or temp gun to measure basking temps and cool end temps.

There are many variables that can affect the heat in your cage, type of cage, what sort of top is on it, the room temperature where the cage is kept etc.

To start, go with a 60 watt bulb and measure the temps during the day.
