I'm herp sitting a friend's leo. They have a UTH stuck to the side of the tank & use a red bulb in the same area all the time. Surely he doesn't need both of these? Wouldn't it be best to stick the UTH on the bottom of the enclosure & stop using the bulb?

Yes the uth should be on the bottom. As for the light is important the give them a day night schedual 12 hours on during the day and off at night. It also helps with the temps.

Yeah, after I posted this I watched him plaster his belly against the side in order to get belly heat. I moved the pad under the tank, under one of his hides & turned off the overhead heat bulb (which was red, btw). Temps on the sand are running good- 93 degrees.
