my first ornate eggs this year

woody44 Jun 25, 2009 02:27 AM

i came home from herping tonight to find out that one of my ornate boxies had laid 5 eggs. unfortunately one of the other females found them before i did and 3 were destroyed. the other 2 are now in my incubator safe and sound. i can't wait to see the offspring of my texas yellowhead male.

Congratulations on getting two of them.

Did she actually dig a nest? My ornates dig nests that are tremendously deep. It would be almost impossible for a cagemate to sabotage the nest. It sounds like she may have dropped them on the ground.

Hatching and raising ornates is so much fun. Good luck with the eggs.

she dug a nest but not as deep as they normally do. the eggs were only a couple inches below the surface.

i don't have pics but i use the simple still air styrofoam egg incubators from the local hardware store. they're only about 20 bucks and i've always had about 90% success with them.
