Tangerine at Petco?

z10silver Sep 14, 2003 07:28 PM

I was at petco today getting crickets and I noticed a baby leopard gecko which was aberrant patterned with intense tangerine color. I know petco usually doesn't carry high class geckos so is this just a brightly colored hatchling which will fade or could it actually be a tangerine? Do tangerine hatchlings usually have such bright colors?

It is a possibility. I purchased my tang from petco for 30 bucks just over a year ago. As for intensity of color, she's not as orange as she looked when she was a baby, nonetheless still a tang and healthy as ever!

I was @ petco the other day and they had about 20 or more babies in the same enclosure with a juvenile tangerine. First off, there were wayyy to many babies in there, and the enclosure sucked. The tangerine juvi was really nice looking though, and it was still priced as a baby for $29.99....I thought about it, but I really have no room right now.

I don't know someone might call that a tang but I think it's just a high yellow.

Can you show me a pic of a tang hatchling?

and they (Bill Brant) is responsible for lots of tangerines and hypo tangerines we have today. They apparently produce quite a few each year, but have taken down their reptile website (tgrreptiles.com). Lots of the top breeders got their tangerines from TGR years ago. It's not surprising some of the nice ones will get sent to Petco if he's producing that many.

Just my guess.
