more cal kings...

greenroomscott Jun 25, 2009 03:25 PM

Here's another (lengthy) set of shots of a bunch of other californiae I have in my collection. Needless to say I have a weakness when it comes to these .

These are some blue-eyed blondes from Vivid:

The rest of these are all from Shannon Brown (the Willy Wonka of cal kings if you've got an addiction like I do).

Merker pair:

Palomar pair (these guys are awesome!!!):

Another purported conjuncta:

Lastly, a Long Beach trio:

You sure do have some awesome animals. I still like the black and REAL white ones the best. Nice.

Bluerosy Jun 25, 2009 10:18 PM

Call me weird but I like the Long Beach trio. Maybe because i apprciate the history and locale. Plus growing up in the area I know how ugly I thought they used to be, we all sought after the San Deigo abberants and B&W desert phases. But now I after seeing thousands of Cal kings, I think they are most unique. .

I would probably feel the same way but I have not seen as many and still love cali's and easterns that are real black with super white banding. They are ALL awesome snakes though and I am sure some look even better in person.

shannon brown Jun 25, 2009 11:16 PM

the way that "ghost" palomar is looking. How are the spotted "La Quinta" animals looking?
And Rainer, those are real true blue conjuncta brother.Old Llyod Lemke line. You have been looking at to many peanut butter and jelly things.LOL....

Bluerosy Jun 25, 2009 11:46 PM

You know more about these than I do Shannon.

But when conjuncta and nitida first appeared on the scene the conjuncta I saw looked different. I am sure you are right about these just wondering what all the fuss was about.

Here is Popes description:

"Conjuncta was originally described by Pope in 1860. This dark kingsnake has poorly defined black flecking, often irregular or even incomplte light silery grey bands."

I'm not connecting it to anything. Please, if you can minimize/rationalize sarcastic and condescending behavior I'm sure a little humor poked at Shannon can be tolerated.

Rainer is a big boy -- pretty sure us big boys can handle ourselves eh?

Shannon, no malice intended. I'm pretty sure at least YOU know that. By the way, where are YOUR forum bodyguards? LOL.

LMAO, Rainer you're killin' me man. You just took this to a whole new notch downwards. Listen, if you ever come to NY I'll be sure to stock plenty of apple juice, crayons and coloring books in the back seat for ya. LOL.

I actually kinda like that clip now that you threw it back my way....laughed harder this time than when it was meant for Shannon. Now can we get back to the kingsnakes already????

Quoted for posterity.

I stand by everything I have said.

I never get rough unless someone starts something first. Here is a first timer asking questions that I gave her answers to. She responds with "bodybuilding snakes" and "I am not a breeder" ect. So I explained that has nothing to do with keeping healthy captives.

Also Jerry. your post sure looked like it was meant for me. Maybe you are just backpedelling but irregardless there is a email contact, USE it!! This will all probably be removed by morning.

I'm a skeptic and a critic, you need to deal with that and soften up. Don't be such a fanboy.

I'm certainly nobody s' bodyguard Jerry, seemed like it was meant for Rainer, I'm just gonna let you "big boys" handle it, gets real old though, try to talk about king snakes and the other carp filters in, really makes this place stink, IMHO.
-----
Todd Hughes

JKruse Jun 26, 2009 09:23 PM

I hear you completely. But what stinks to me even more is when a newbie comes along and gets a one-size-fits-all answer and then is somewhat bashed along the way. I havent pulled half the crap some others have in this forum, and I'm getting told what stinks? I think we need to re-evaluate that.

I'm not about to turn this into "my issue" simply because i tried to buffer Rainer's "blanket policy" on kingsnake feeding protocols and assist someone in need. Guess I need to hang around another 17 years and be abrasive along the way....yeah, maybe that'll work. LMAO.

antelope Jun 26, 2009 11:12 PM

from my perspective, once we decide to let it go, we let it go, even if the other person does not. I remember both of us asking Rainer to chill on the other post, he did, then it "seemed" like you brought it forward, I didn't see it as being meant for Shannon, my mistake, I just wanted to see if you were gonna play by the same rules. Jerry, Rainer doesn't need a bodyguard, he can beat me up physically ( he's pretty good with a Bo staff) and verbally, lol!
Anyway, I am outta this, it does no good to ask for civility amongst us. Personalities are what they are. Mine is out there I am sure. I know how it feels to be passionate about something and on the other end of the spectrum. All have a great year breeding, buy a new snake that does it for you and sell some babies, field herp, push the envelope and do what you do!

JKruse Jun 27, 2009 12:23 AM

I follow the same path grasshopper. No more beating dead horses. Overall the poster got some great advice and a hearty helping of excessive personality. The spark that lit the fuse...well......others can decide that for themselves. Us seasoned folk have been 'round the block way too many times to not be able to talk "civil" amongst ourselves without trying to "one up" the other in ways other than simply trying to clarify a point or a perspective.

To digress to my other life's passion, a bo staff is an excellent extension of the body for sure. Not sure why that came into play here, but talking about that stuff with me is like dangling a steak in front of a dog. But that's a whole 'nother discussion/different site.

Take care fellas, and g'nite.

How are the spotted "La Quinta" animals looking?

Hey Shannon -

The La Quintas are doing great...there's two pics of one in my
first "cal kings..." post. The other is in shed so no photos
for that one just yet.

The Davis kings are doing awesome too. I'll drag them out for a photo op one of these days.

All in all just a great bunch of snakes...super stoked all the way around. I'll be watching closely to see what else you come
up with this year .

Awesome Snakes, Cal Kings are my addiction as well. I only have 19 at my house, the other 20 or so are at Franks Rete's house breeding. Its cool to see that you and I have got all are snakes from the same breeders.Shannon, Don, Kerby and Vivid are some outstanding breeders of Cal Kings! Martin M.

greenroomscott Jun 26, 2009 01:10 PM

Awesome Snakes, Cal Kings are my addiction as well.

Thanks Martin.

It was your series of pics below that motivated me to get some shots of mine up .

The black and white aberrant in your first set is gorgeous. Can't stop thinking about that one.

There's a show here in SD this weekend so I may have to go trolling yet again (Randy Wright is another breeder that has some beautiful cal kings).

Thanks again.

Hey, I got that snake from Don, give him a call he might Have another one or he could save you one. He gave me smoking deal $25 bucks, I know I am lucky. Take Care Martin

Spankenstyne Jun 26, 2009 09:43 AM

Impressive collection. Really enjoying your pics, thanks for posting them.

reako45 Jun 26, 2009 08:45 PM

Scott, man, your Cals are as awesome as your Pits. those long Beaches you've got pictured look a bit like the ones I've found here in Chatsworth. Not really apparent in this old pic, but this guy's bands have since gotten "dirtier" since he's gotten older/bigger.

Wow the Long Beach phase is making it, to the big time..

Fundad
Good to see, I am very happy I let the cat out of the bag on these, as the area is doomed. And this phase will only be found
in captivity.

MMCalKing Jul 02, 2009 01:18 AM

I really like my 3 coastal phase's, I got them from Gerold Merker last year, and they are turning out to be really awesome, and these 3 mean a lot to me because Gerold told me that these would be the last 3 he would breed. Martin
