bamboo rats temperment???

geckoejon Jun 25, 2009 05:05 PM

hello everyone, i was wondering about your experience with and opinions about the bamboo rats. i know there are numerous kinds. how are their temperments? how easy are they to handle? do they just try to flee or do they warm up and become fairly tame? what about overall hardiness? ease of breeding? thanks for your time....

The bamboo rat snake group aren't a sit in your hand and watch the world go by type of snakes. They are easy to handle once you understand their need to "race". By "race" I mean they don't like to held tightly or forced to be still. They want to move freely.
Of the four types we work with, the vaillanti are the most calm. They seem to be the slowest with their actions.
As a group they are very hardy snakes. Keep them cool and you should not have any problems.
Breeding is very simple. No "tricks" are needed. Cool them down in the winter, warm them up in the spring. That's all it takes.
