Candleling ball python eggs

Bart_079 Jun 26, 2009 04:19 AM

Quick Question,
If i candle my ball python eggs at 45 days, should i be able to see an embrio / baby ball?
The only thing i see is veins. Although my eggs look healthy and the shell is still soft i am a bit worried.
Thanks in advance for your reactions.

A: They're supposed to be soft. Ball pythons eggs are leathery, not like chicken eggs, so no worries.

B: Sometimes you will see the snake, sometimes you will see a big blackish mass in the bottom of the egg. That's the snake. I lucked out and knew one of my snakes was a pastel before it hatched because it pressed it's pattern up against the egg shell for me. Haha.

It depends on where the snake is inside the egg. I have eggs where I could see the embryo one day, and another day I couldn't because it had moved. I've also had snakes press up against the egg and give me a good look at their pattern. I hatched an albino last year in which I never saw the embryo inside the egg. All I saw were veins through the entire incubation. In the photo below, the dark mass at the bottom is what you're looking for as far as an embryo (day 26 incubation).
