Savannah Pooping problems

timmah Jun 27, 2009 11:32 AM

I have a sav about 1.5 years old, he is over 2 feet and i have never had a problem with him pooping until now. He eats large mice and he usually poops every few days. From now to about a month ago he has no pooped at all, i soaked him in water, rubbed his belly, hot spot is around 140 cool side is 85ish, his substrate is organic top soil.

I stopped feeding him about a week ago, was waiting until he poops.

If you've already gone through your husbandry and still haven't figured out the problem, the vet would be my best recommendation.

just wondering...
How is the animal overall? Still alert and such?

Sounds like hydration might be the culprit.

He is really active, I soak him every other day and he has a big water tub. He would eat more food if i gave him it but thats not gonna happen. His body is pretty plump.

If your soil and burrows held well enough for the animal, the need for regular soaking wouldn't be needed, as those burrows are usually 100% humidity inside. A hydration problem would be my first guess as well.In your post, you stated things that many of us would like to read when starting off with a 'problem' thread.

Try taking some photos of the animal and setup. Maybe some of us can spot what can possibly be wrong and chime in.

Keep a vet in mind.

Are you sure he isn't crappin? I bet he would be in really bad shape if he wasn't, especially on a heavy rodent diet.

Well after a month he finally did the dirty. But it looked completely different than his regular poop. It was hard as a rock, he was so swollen in the stomach and he still is pretty swollen. I have not feed him in almost 2 weeks now. I still don't think hes drinking water though, he used to drink after he ate the mice, but I never see him heading for the water bowl now. He goes nuts for food when I go to take him out though, but I think I am going to wait another week before I feed him, hopefully he will clear himself out.
