ADVICE ON TEMP FOR BOA

chiplatham Jun 27, 2009 03:44 PM

i am trying to sort out temps for a baby sunglow boa. right now, i have her in a boaphile like (not sure who made it) enclosure.

i have a UTH on one side.

the ambiant temps are running around 78/79. the hot spot is between 87 to 89.

i know this is a little lower than it should be. i can add low watt, houshold light bulb...and that will bump the ambiant and hot spot...but i don't have a cover for the built in light fixture.

is ambiant 78/79 and hot spot 87 to 89 warm enough, or do i really need to bump it a few degrees? right now, the temps i have are stable.

suggestions/

That is fine.

I think you will find that baby boas do not need high temps (like above 88), but you are just fine offering them. A range is always best, and the range you are providing is good.

They can easily thrive with an ambient temp of 78 deg and a heat pad. A small boa can raise its internal body temp quicker than an adult, so even a small heat pad can do the job for a baby boa.

On the other hand, large boas need lots of heat energy to raise the temps inside their large mass. Not necessarily super high temps, but a wide heated area.
