San Mateo Show, boyfriend for adult :D

ShaunDuke Sep 14, 2003 08:28 PM

I just got back from the San Mateo show and I got my adult leo a little boyfriend :D. I'm planning to try to breed in the spring since he should be well into maturity by then. He's got some jungle and stripe genes in him, so babies should be interesting.

Still working on my baby leo, I hope she will be alright. I'm going to take a fecal in hopefully on monday if I can. I need to get that examined and I am trying some things a breeder for Leo's said at the show. Maybe that will make a difference, I really hope. She is so pretty and it would be devastating for her to die. I really like the little runt, too gorgeous...so gorgeous if it was illegal to be so, she'd be on deathrow... :S..hehe.

Anyway, thought I would let everyone know, and I hope some day I can get pictures up, I hope...my mom broke her digital camera on a family trip so I don't have any way to get them on here unless I do that new kodak CD whatever thing and put them on my website, ooh..good idea does sound it..yes..maybe I will do that :D.

Did you get him from Steve at Geckos, Etc., from Marcia, or elsewhere? I remember Steve talking about some geckos w/ Stripe/jungle genes.

I got him from Golden Gate Geckos. The lady there, I guess Marcia , was great. Very very helpful, gave me some ideas on what to do about temperatures in the cage so the lizards can thermoregulate. Very awesome. And the lizard I got is too cute for words . The pattern on his head is cool. He actually started shedding last night, he's all ghostly white hehe. Which means when he comes out he'll be all perty and bright...I think I'll take some pictures with the camera I have...hehe.

Excellent. Marcia is great. I was only there for a couple hours from 2-4 yesterday, spent most of the time talking to Marcia, also some talking to Steve at Geckos, Etc. and to Mark at American Cricket Ranch (I need to start ordering feeders in bulk, so it was a good connection to make).

Marcia will be at the Petaluma show the 27th in Petaluma, as will I (StarGecko), Jon from SF Geckos, and Steven from Royal Gold reptiles...come say hello to everyone!

Petaluma is about 30 miles north of San Francisco, on Highway 101. The fairgrounds are right off the highway. If you check www.nbherps.org, they have detailed instructions on how to get there.

I live halfway inbetween Sacramento and Tahoe :S, in a place called Placerville. I don't think I will be able to go, unless someone lives nearby that is going that I could hitch a ride with . hehe.

Sure, I know where Placerville is. I live in Santa Rosa, only 1/2 hr. away from Petaluma. I guess the Sac. show is the only one close to you, huh? Too bad...but on the other hand, I wouldn't mind living in Placerville, lol.

Well, I got lucky that my mom took me to the San Mateo show. I did go to the Sac show and it is okay but it gets so crowded I can't really enjoy and the show in SM was very fun because i could actually talk to the breeders instead of having to yell out a question to get an answer and watching all the breeders stressing.

ShaunDuke Sep 15, 2003 08:35 PM

I normally go to the Sac show, but it's just so crowded there. The SM show was a lot better since I could actually talk to the breeders person to person and get answers.

Riley got his gecko, finally--a high-yellow normal (if that's what you call it), a little female named Geico, and I got a male named George. Both from Marcia, who was very helpful and answered all our questions (thanks, Marcia). I thought the show was much better than in May--not a lot more vendors, but better variety. I saw a lot of snakes I didn't see in May.

There was quite a lot of variety. I think there were a lot more neat looking geckos there than I have seen at any show (2 Sac shows and now this SM show). The San Mateo show was a little smaller than the Sac so, but it wasn't very crowded so I actually could ask questions and get answers. The Sacramento show was so crowded you'd be lucky to get an answer from anyone because they were just swamped by customers.
This show was actually the first time I had seen people really selling Frilled Dragons. I want one of those , they look so cool. Such a nice color too, this weird grayish color with spots and stuff. Normally that would seem ugly, but it just for some reason seems really really really really pretty. Well, then again, I think all reptiles are pretty.
There were a lot of snakes there, a lot more variety than I have seen, and some different colorations than I have seen. THere was a raspberry rat/milk/king snake there. Such a weird color. Reminded me of those creamsavers candies, the colors were just bizarre for a snake, but pretty.

The show was really neat . I'm glad I went, and in fact, I think from now on I'm going ot buy from breeders instead of the stores. I've noticed now that whenever I buy from the stores, even if it is a local store, I get problems with them :S. Breeders tend to have better animals, and you know what, I am starting to question the local pet store. Marcia was selling her geckos at what seemed like a safer size than the pet store here. My poor little baby is just getting it rough. Anywho, the show was really great, and Marcia is one of the best dealers I have met.

luvmyleos Sep 15, 2003 08:41 PM

I wont ever buy another gecko from any pet stores, and Marcia is always helpful and her geckos are very healthy. I am lucky I guess cause I only live about 20 miles from her.
