Wild Caught ORANGISH Black Ratsnake

pecoskid Jun 28, 2009 11:08 AM

This black ratsnake was collected one year ago. It was collected as a hatchling and although it did look a bit different from the norm, there was no indication that it would develope this much orange. I am familiar with the black ratsnakes in this area and have never seen one quite like this. The pic is recent, it is a bit larger than 36" long. Kevin

That is one fine looking snake, but from here it doesn't quite look like a pure Black Ratsnake. Maybe, just maybe, there could be one of those orange Texas Ratsnakes in the mix. Anyway, where exactly did you find it?

It was found in the Kansas City area. I've collected this particular site for twenty years and black rats are the only ratsnakes i've ever seen in the area (no emory rats at this local). It is a pure black ratsnake, i'm sure. kevin

I have one that looks exactly like that collected from OKC about three years ago. Definitely the Texas rat snake look.

Its a dark linderheimi. Just more Melanin than the average Texan Rat, but I've seen one even darker ( front looked identical to a Black Rat..)before, a real giant too.
