First litter ever albinos

ChristopherM Jun 28, 2009 08:43 PM

I had my first litter of albino boas june 5th. So its been about three weeks. Now three of them have not shed and im getting worried. Should i keep waiting? Should I do something if so what?
And im wondering the best way to sex them. Probing? ive heard that can be bad for baby snakes?

Some shed slower than others.
If humidity is right and they are otherwise doing good, then you need not worry....they will shed when they are ready.

As far as sexing...probing is unnecessary!
You can more accurately sex them by "palpation".
Using your thumb, slide with a little bit of pressure from the vent towards the tail--In males you will feel two little "speed bumps", females will have no speedbumps.
It takes a little bit of practice, but it is very easy once you get the feel for it. It is also a lot safer.

Here is a Palpation Image/Gif from Dave Colling.
Its a wonderful tool for showing people how to Palpate
Plus here is Dave's wonderful Description

what I do for palpating is...

hold the tail end of the baby so it's spine is resting on your thumb.
Then without moving your thumb, slide your finger
from vent to tail, not a lot of preasure.
Do it several times trying to feel the BB's / bumps.
Boas are hung and the BB's should be 3/4" or more from the vent
but always start at the vent.

Here's a gif showing the process...

I hope that's helpful to you
